Stephen Nairne – Managing Partner
Mr. Nairne has run AHL Venture Partners (and it's forebearers) since 2007. He serves on the Advisory Board of several SME funds and companies in Sub-Saharan Africa and is concurrently appointed as an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia, where he teaches courses on Country and Project Risk Analysis in Developing Countries and African Political Economy. Prior, Mr. Nairne served as Deputy Director with Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade's Pacific Office and as Senior Political Risk Analyst at Export Development Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University and a Master of Arts from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University.
Patrick Seeton - CFO & COO
Mr. Seeton is based in Vancouver and supports the investment team and portfolio companies for AHL Venture Partners. Prior to AHL, Patrick served as Chief Financial Officer of Sanergy, a Nairobi based social enterprise that provides a system based solution to the sanitation crisis in the city's informal settlements. Patrick is a Chartered Business Valuator and Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) having working for 10 years with KPMG's Corporate Finance, Valuations and Real Estate & Construction practice in Vancouver and Toronto.
Ben Peterson: Senior Partner
Mr. Peterson heads AHL's Nairobi office, managing AHL's team of investment professionals, overseeing all new investment opportunities in Eastern and Southern Africa, and providing post-investment support to portfolio companies. Previously, Ben served as Co-Founder and CEO of Newsana Incorporated and Co-Founder and Executive Director of JHR (Journalists for Human Rights). Ben continues to serve as Chair Emeritus of JHR's Board of Directors. Ben has a BA in Economics and a BAH in Political Studies from Queen's University, and an MSc in Political Theory from the London School of Economics (LSE). Ben has received many awards for his work, including Canada's Top 40 under 40 Award, the Action Canada Fellowship, the Queen's University Alumni Humanitarian Award and was recently awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, one of Canada’s highest civilian honours.
Rosanne Whalley: Partner
Based in Nairobi, Ms. Whalley structures new investments in East and Southern Africa, and provides post-investment portfolio support. She has broad impact investing experience across Africa, in the agriculture and infrastructure markets. Prior to joining AHL, Ms. Whalley worked for InfraCo Africa, where she focused on investing in distributed solar PV mini-grids and biomass. Before that, she joined AgDevCo as its second employee, helping to build AgDevCo into a leading pan-African agri-investor. Her role culminated in three years in Mozambique as Country Manager, sitting on the board of numerous agricultural companies, structuring deals and overseeing 22 investments across multiple value chains. Rosanne has degrees from the University of York (BA Hons) and the London School of Economics (MSc), and holds an advanced qualification in finance.
Joseph Indangasi: Portfolio Manager
Mr. Indangasi joined AHL's Nairobi office in September 2016. He previously served as Executive Assistant to the CEO at Airtel Kenya, specialising in business analysis and strategy execution. Prior to joining Airtel, Mr. Indangasi was an Investment Analyst at IPS, the Industrial and Infrastructure arm of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED). Joseph has a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from the University of Nairobi, CPA and CFA Level II.
Janvier Dabire: Portfolio Manager
Mr. Dabire joined the Accra office in January 2016. Prior, he worked in Ecobank and Bank of Africa as a senior financial analyst in the Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) division. Mr. Dabire started his career as statistician in charge of studies in the division of economic studies of the National Institute of Statistics and Demographics of Burkina Faso.
Mr. Dabire holds an MBA in banking and finance from CESAG business school in Senegal, an Engineer degree in statistics from the National School of Statistics and Applied Economics of Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire). He also has a BSc in mathematics from the University of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).
Tsakane Ngoepe: Portfolio Manager
Ms. Ngoepe, based in Nairobi, supports the team's investment activities through the cycle - origination, structuring and post-investment portfolio support. Prior to joining AHL, Ms. Ngoepe was an impact investment analyst at the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship, where she focused on researching and testing innovative financing instruments and projects. She was also a research and writing assistant to Julia Balandina Jaquier for the second edition of the book “Catalyzing Wealth for Change” (an impact investing guide for high net worth individuals and family offices). Ms. Ngoepe has a BCom honours degree in Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management from the University of Cape Town.
NENE DIALLO: INVESTMENT ANALYST
Based in Abidjan, Ms. Diallo is an Investment Analyst for AHL’s West and Central Africa Portfolio. Prior to joining the team in January 2018, she was a financial analyst for SSENSE in Montreal, an international fashion platform. Before that, she held similar roles at Pratt & Whitney, an aerospace manufacturing company as well as Bell Canada, which is Canada’s largest telecommunications company. Ms. Diallo started her career in Toronto, where she was as a business analyst for FSEAP, a not-for -profit organization that focuses on providing organizational health and wellness services, she then moved to Teknion Furniture as a financial analyst.
Ms. Diallo is a CPA, CMA and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University, where she majored in Accounting.
Peter Mwangi: Financial AdministratoR, Nairobi
Mr. Mwangi joined AHL’s Nairobi office in January 2017. Prior, he worked in the Tourism Industry as an administrator / accountant in various tour firms and most recently as an entrepreneur, running a tour, safaris & taxi company. He started his career as an Audit Assistant in an Audit Firm, Mugo & Company CPAs, before moving to the Tourism Industry where he’s worked for KRAY Tours & Safaris and Airports & Beyond Tours in Finance Department as the chief accountant, and later, he started his own transport company, Digits Tours & Travel. Mr. Mwangi is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a certificate in Kenya Certified Public Accountants.
